is a Thomas, son of Henry, in the Philadelphia Monthly

England. The notation is that he requested his

certificate from there. dated 9 Sept. 1718. But the

date on the notation is 1720. So, the other date

may be the date he migrated because it has the abbr..

Josiah is on the Chatham county census for 1800 with his brothers Arthur and John. There is a Thomas as well but according to the census he would be too young to be brother Thomas and would have to be a nephew?

Plainfield Friends cemetary: It is in the

Township of Albright (the extreme NW corner of Chatham

Co.) bordering Randolph Co., on the West and

Alamance Co., on the North.

I just looked at the wills for Arthur and the one whose wife is Rachel left

a will in 1815, in Chatham. Naming his wife (Rachel) and his only son

John. He had a granddaughter Ann Johnson, who is under age. So, he must have

had a daughter who married a Johnson and is deceased, or else he didn't

leave her anything.

The following are names of the men who were Officers of Companies raised in Chatham County for the Revolutionary War. Some of the names are taken by me from the records of the Court of Pleas & Quarter Sessions of the county (1774 - 1788)

The men that served as militia during the revoluntion were NOT eligible for pensions or bounty land warrants. Only the men who served at least two years in the continental line were eligible for that. But, the militia service does make them eligible for "Patriot" designation, if they time they served was during the period of the war.

Having said that, I can tell you that Chatham milita men were eligble before then, because of the wording in the court of Pleas & Quarter Sessions beginning in August of 1774.

At that time, the Court Justices decided that they would remove all mention of the King of England and his titles, from their government documents.

The War of the Regulators had it's effect on the county!!

Land be divided between four Sons- Arthur, Silas, Solomon and Josiah.

bequeath to Son Josiah one hundred acres including the buildings and

improvements land where I live to him his Heirs and assigns forever.

Remainder of my land to be divided between my son Arthur, Silas and

Solomon by five indifferent persons. Land to be divided so that each son

If in fact Thomas was a Quaker he married outside the church and would have been excommunicated since Elenora was a Lutheran. Marriage outside the church constituted a mortal sin and one's records were expunged. That would account for there not being records of him in the Quaker files.

Thomas also shows up in the 1800 census for Chatham County next to John Fox.

What is the evidence for a sister Elizabeth of Arthur, Hannah, John, Josiah and Thomas Whitehead? A family letter written in 1938 giving a history of the early Whiteheads (of which I have seen a copy)states that Arthur, with three brothers and one sister came from VA before the Revolution.

What is the evidence that Thomas married Eleanora Murphy? Timothy Murphy's will, dated 1776, names his sons-in-law Josiah and Thomas Whitehead. He had seven daughters, Catharine, Anna, Eleonora, Mary, Jane, and twins, Joanna and Lydia, who were christened in Christ Lutheran church in York PA on the same day 28 Oct 1761. Josiah's wife at the time of his will made in 1809, is named Mary. And Thomas's wife, as named in the diary of hs son Nathan (in the possession of Patrick

DeMarco), was named Ann. This creates a presumption (in the absence of proof of multiple marriages) that Josiah married Mary Murphy and Thomas married Anna Murphy.

The 1820 census for Chatham county shows Thomas with one male between the age of 18 and 25, himself and Eleanora and an unaturalized citizen farmer.

I Archibald Whitehead of the county of Morgan and state of Indiana, do make

and publish this my last will and testament hereby revoking and making void

all for or wills and testaments by me at any time heretofore made.

First, I direct that all just claims against my estate be paid out of the

first monies that may come into the hands of my executor, and as to the

balance of my wordly estate I dispose of it as follows,

To Mary TERRY I give and bequeath one dollar. To Jacob Whitehead I give and
